Our role is to set and implement UVA-wide food goals that advance sustainable, equitable food systems at UVA and in the broader community. We strive to center food justice and food sovereignty across all of the activities fostered in the Sustainable Food Action Plan.
What is the UVA Sustainable Food Collaborative?
The UVA Sustainable Food Collaborative (SFC)—formerly known as the Sustainable Food Strategy Task Force—was formed in 2016 to implement the UVA Sustainability Plan (2016-2020) goals relating to food. As a subset of UVA Sustainability Committee, Collaborative members represent several university entities connected with the campus food system, including UVA Sustainability, Office of the Provost, Department of Politics, Institute for Engagement & Negotiation, Morven Farm, Virginia Humanities, UVA Dining, UVA Health System Dining, Local Food Hub, and Cultivate Charlottesville. The SFC works to implement the five Sustainability Plan Food Goals, which center around food sustainability, food security and equity, and supporting local food systems. The SFC is funded by UVA Sustainability Plan funding, which is administered by the University Committee on Sustainability. Learn more about our work here.
