The Virginia Food Systems Leadership Institute (VFSLI)  is unique in bringing together both faculty and students from five different universities – GMU, JMU, UVA, VT, VCU – for a multidisciplinary dive into food systems. VFSLI prepares rising leaders in the area of sustainable food systems by combining knowledge in food systems through the lens of food equity, with building competencies in skills for leadership, and a research project relating to farm-to-university challenges to prepare students for food system job opportunities.

Food system planning is a recognized field, and, what’s more, the jobs in this arena are growing every year, at all levels—nonprofits, local government, state and federal government, private sector, and even grassroots activist work. Alumni of the first year have already gained food system job opportunities.

Information sessions: Feel free to drop in at any time to ask questions and learn more about VFSLI.
